Someone talk me off this one. Tampa -3.5 seems like an easy play to me. SF LG & LT(Deese is very good) are probably out.

Also, Brian Kelly and Shelton Quarles will be back on D for the Bucs.

Thoughts?

As a 49ers fan......I can't argue with you. Tampa will be all over Garcia this weekend.

started looking at this again .....
49ers rush the ball better and stop the run better than the Bucs defense ---- if you follow Smokey's rushing system, the play is San Fran +3.5

IMO you guys are over-analyzing this one. Lay the points and watch the Bucs mulch the Niners into ground beef.

Oren: of course we do ..... have to admit that sometimes it's REAL hard to shake the "fan" part of football handicapping

heheh, yeah, but wouldn't Spock say something like "Captain, the odds of the 49ers scoring more than 10 points in this game are extremely low, I would suggest taking the Bucs - 3 1/2. I believe the odds are also good that the Bucs score more than 14 points."

I think over 39 would be the play.

I see no problem with the 9er's being up for this game and putting on 14 points on the board.

With Tampa averaging 25.4pts a game, Why wouldn't they lay 31 up on San Fran's happless defense??

Thoughts?

I suck at totals. over looks decent to me though, look how many points the Bucs have been putting on the board, obviously.

Swamp - good to see you hanging around. You know it's weird but I just can't make myself take them this week. I do think they are the right side but just a gut feeling is saying stay away Irish. Some of my concern is that west coast thing plus who's starting at fullback, no Alstott as you know. Cook? I heard they picked up a guy off waivers as his backup? Hate for Cook to go down. Also SF has looked poor of late but Garcia to Owen could rebound and have a huge game this week though as you say we are getting Kelly back. Maybe (and I hope) I'm just being too pessimistic. I do see that SF is only 5-11 in their last 16 against winning teams and Bucs are 3-0 on away games this year but laying 3.5 on the road gives me a bad feeling. Would like the game a lot more if they didn't look so good last week.

PS - you probably already bet it but there are 3's out there now, CanBet has -3 +105 which is hugely better than -3.5 -110. Hope you win it though, I still may end up betting it after I think on it more. Good luck.

I just heard that the starters on the left side of SF's offense line are doubtful this weekend. Heitman and someone else.

Also, let's remember that TB is not known for their offense. I don't think it matters that Alstott is out. The offense is in there to just not turn the ball over. TB relies on there defense to score a couple TD's each week.

With these linemen out, Garcia will be forced to throw sooner than he would like and we saw what TB did to the niners last year in the playoffs.

I can see where someone might think that ---- that's the perception ----- hate to break it to you, but the reality is that these aint your "Dungy Bucs" anymore

they have the 8th best scoring offense and our 2nd best in yards/game
they've had back to back games scoring 35 points .... which is, sadly, the first time in franchise history
and the Bucs have been doing it with a banged up lineup ---- Joe Jurevicius has been injured .... Ken Dilger went out of last week's game early on with plantar fascitis .....
but the most consistent thing has been QB play --- Brad Johnson has been EXCELLENT since the mid-point of last season ........ is that a mere coincidence that Gruden is in Tampa now??? don't think so ......
